| I wondered the same thing. But if you think about it, leverage is the answer. The further out the the caliper is from the center of the rotor, the easier it is to stop it. The same way it's easier to loosen a bolt with a 2' breaker bar than a 6" wrench. I thought it had to do with the pad size and swept area too, but Harry (SpdDemon13) explained it to me and it makes perfect sense now.
